📊 Stats Glossary

Understanding the numbers behind the game

⚾ Hitting

PA - Plate Appearances: Total times a player comes to bat
AB - At Bats: Official at-bats (excludes walks, sacrifices, etc.)
AVG - Batting Average: Hits divided by at-bats (H/AB)
OBP - On-Base Percentage: How often a player reaches base
OPS - On-Base Plus Slugging: Combined measure of getting on base and hitting for power
H - Hits: Total base hits
1B - Singles: One-base hits
2B - Doubles: Two-base hits
3B - Triples: Three-base hits
HR - Home Runs: Four-base hits (over the fence)
RBI - Runs Batted In: Runs scored as a result of a player's hit
R - Runs: Times a player crossed home plate
BB - Walks (Base on Balls): Times a player was walked
SB - Stolen Bases: Successful base steals

🥎 Pitching

IP - Innings Pitched: Total innings pitched (e.g., 5.1 = 5 and 1/3 innings)
BF - Batters Faced: Total batters faced by the pitcher
#P - Pitch Count: Total number of pitches thrown
H - Hits Allowed: Base hits given up by the pitcher
R - Runs Allowed: Total runs scored against the pitcher
ER - Earned Runs: Runs allowed that weren't due to errors
BB - Walks: Batters walked by the pitcher
SO - Strikeouts: Batters struck out by the pitcher
ERA - Earned Run Average: Average earned runs per 7 innings (ER × 7 / IP)
BAA - Batting Average Against: Opponent batting average against pitcher

🧤 Catching

Innings - Innings Caught: Total innings played as catcher
PB - Passed Balls: Pitches that got past the catcher
SB-ATT - Stolen Base Attempts: Number of steal attempts while catching
CS - Caught Stealing: Runners thrown out attempting to steal
CS% - Caught Stealing Percentage: Success rate throwing out runners (CS/SB-ATT)

🥎 Fielding

TC - Total Chances: Putouts + assists + errors
FPCT - Fielding Percentage: Success rate on fielding chances (1 - errors/TC)
DP - Double Plays: Number of double plays turned
